KOREAN GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP –2009

Applications are invited from Indian nationals on plain paper in the format given below for the award of scholarships to Indian students offered by the Government of Republic of Korea, at Master’s level, Ph. D. level. The subjects in which scholarships will be awarded are given as below:

i) Bio-technology
ii) Environment Science
iii) Molecular Biology
iv) Computer Application.
v) Architecture
vi) Agronomy
vii) Information Technology
viii) Korean Language & Literature
ix) International Co-operation *

2. Age: Not exceeding 40 years for Master’s & Ph.D. respectively as on 1-9-2009.
.
3. Qualification: Applicants must have already earned or expected to receive: (a) a bachelor’s degree with 60% of marks or equivalent prior to August 31, 2009, in order to apply for Master’s Programme; (b) a Master’s degree with 60% of marks prior to August 31, 2009 in order to apply for an advanced programme (doctoral degree; Ph.D.

* This subject can be studied in English.



Note: Candidates who have received Korean Scholarship at any time are not eligible.

4. Duration:

Master’s degree programme: About 2 years (excluding a 1 year Korean Language course)
*

Ph.D. programme: About 3 years (excluding a 1 year Korean Language course)

5. Airfare: The awardee will be paid an economy class ticket airfare to the Republic of Korea, and thereafter, a return ticket of the same category to his or her country of residence after the completion of a study programme.

6. Value of Scholarship:



(i) Monthly Allowance: Upon arrival and registration at National Institute for International Education Development (NIIED) , the awardee will be provided with 900,000 won per month to cover living expenses for the period of his or her programme.

(ii) Tuition Fees: Scholars under the auspices of Korean Government are subject for a tuition waiver: full tuition fee is exempted by the Government and the full entrance fee is exempted by the host institution.

(iii) Research Allowance (Additional Payment): Includes costs for textbooks and other literature, student association membership, dissertation review, and so on; it is only granted to those who take a degree course or a research course.
Humanities: 210,000 won per semester
Natural Sciences, Arts or Physical Education: 240,000 won per semester

(iv) Settlement Allowance: An awardee will be paid 200,000 won upon arrival.

(v) Language Training Expenses: the NIIED will pay the entrusted language training institution the full cost up to 1 year.

(vi) Dissertation Printing Costs: Up to 500,000 won will be reimbursed for the costs related to a dissertation printing.

(vii) Medical Insurance: 15000 won per month.



7. Last Date for submission of application:

(a) Application on plain paper (as per format given below) alongwith the required photocopies of documents with a recent passport size photograph pasted on the application should reach the ‘Section Officer, Es.3 Section, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, A.1/W.3, Curzon Road Barracks, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, New Delhi-110 001’ latest by 5.30 PM on 30-4-2009.

(b) Application can also submitted on-line at the Department’s website www.education.nic.in by 30-4-2009. In case of on-line applications, Hard Copy of the application in the prescribed format along with required documents should be submitted by 10-05-2009, otherwise on-line applications will not be entertained.



8. Documents to be attached:



1. The candidates must attach the following documents with the application:

(a) Attested copy of the certificate the date of birth.

(b) Attested copies of all degree/diploma/certificate & mark-sheets of the qualifying examination.

(c) Self attested copies will not be accepted.

(d) Where grades are mentioned, the candidate must indicate the conversion formula adopted by the University/Institution and should indicate equivalent percentage of marks.



2. Equivalent foreign degree will be considered.



3. Candidates who have already been abroad for study/research/training for more than six months at a time either on a scholarship or on their own, are eligible to apply only if they have been in India for at least two years after their return from abroad as on 30-4-2009. Applications of candidates, who are abroad, will not be considered.



4. Candidates should have adequate knowledge of geographical situation, culture and heritage of Korea and India.



5. Application in subject-fields, other than those prescribed, will not be considered. A candidate can apply only in one subject.



6. Employed candidates must send their applications through their employers with “ No Objection Certificate”. However, an advance application can be submitted with the understanding that the application through employer should reach before the date of interview. Otherwise candidates will not be allowed to appear for interview. Advance application must be complete in all respects.



7. Candidates must attach with the application a description in at least 500 words of his project/proposal of study/research to be undertaken in Korea.



8. Applications, which are incomplete or unsigned, will not be considered.



9. Canvassing in any from & suppression of any fact in the application will disqualify the candidature of the applicant.



10. While indicating the period of past experience and stay abroad, candidate should mention the specific dates.



11. As these scholarships are offered by foreign Govts, hence the applications should be submitted in English only.



12. Candidates who do not possess the essential qualifications need not apply.



13. THE DECISION OF SELECTION COMMITTEE SHALL BE FINAL. & NO REPRESENTATION IN THIS REGARD WILL BE ENTERTAINED.



14. THE FINAL SELECTION OF THE NOMINATED CANDIDATES RESTS WITH THE GOVERNMENT OF REPUBLIC OF KOREA.



15. Mere fulfillment of minimum requirements as laid down in the advertisement does not qualify a candidate for interview. Interview letters are sent only to limited number of candidates after their applications are examined by the Committee of Experts.



16. The applicants who are in employment should have an assurance from the employer that if their nomination is successful, they will be granted sufficient leave during study period in Korea.

APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO P.G. PROGRAMME

Application form along with the Prospectus and Information Bulletin will be issued as per press notification published by the SPA in the newspapers. Prospectus and Information Bulletin can be obtained from the bankers of the School i.e. UCO Bank Branches from Delhi: IIPA (I.P.Estate, Ring Road), Defence Colony (Near Mool Chand Flyover), Cannaught Place (Near Marina Hotel), Karol Bagh (Arya Samaj Road), Som Vihar (R.K.Puram), Punjabi Bagh (Ring Road), Banglore, Pune, Nagpur, Kolkata and Mumbai against payment of the Application Fee of Rs.750 (Rupees seven hundred fifty only) in cash during banking hours.

Requests for application form by post must be accompanied by a crossed demand draft of Rs.750 (Rupees seven hundred fifty only) on any nationalized bank and drawn in favor of SCHOOL OF PLANING AND ARCHITECTURE payable at NEW DELHI. All such requests are to be addressed to the Registrar of the School. Payment by cheque is not acceptable.

Candidates, who have appeared in the prescribed qualifying examinations and whose results have not yet been declared, may also apply.

Exact dates for various purposes will be mentioned in the Information Sheet attached with the Application Form.

The academic session will commence on 28th July. Candidates admitted to various courses are requested to report on the opening day, failing which their admission shall be treated as cancelled unless extension of time is requested for and granted by the School.

Fees and other deposits may be refunded as per rules in case the candidate leaves the course.

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

GENERAL

  • Separate application forms are to be submitted for each course. There are no restrictions on the number of courses that the candidate may apply for. Each application form must be submitted alongwith DD of Rs.750/- in favour of School of Planning and Architecture, payable at New Delhi.
  • Copies of the certificates, mark sheets/testimonials, etc. are not to be attached with the application.
  • Candidates, who are yet to appear for their final examinations, are also eligible to apply provided their final results are published before 28th July, 2009.
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

  • Letter of recommendation are confidential and their content will not be divulged to the candidates.
  • Candidates who have graduated less than twelve months ago or are yet to complete their degrees are required to submit two letters of recommendations in the prescribed form from faculty members who have known the candidate for a minimum period of eighteen months.
  • For candidates who have been employed for over one year; one professional letter of recommendation from their employee and The letter of recommendation from their faculty member who has known him/ her for a minimum period of eighteen months.
  • Letters of recommendations are to be sealed by the referees, signed across and should accompany the application form: name of the candidate and Department applied for should be clearly mentioned on the cover.

PORTFOLIO OF WORK

  • Graduates in the discipline of Architecture/Planning are required to submit a portfolio of their work on A4 size sheet including their latest project work/thesis and any two other chosen projects, maximum 10 pages (not accepted online).
  • Candidates from all other disciplines; may submit a synopsis of their thesis/project work/professional work, etc. if any.
SUBMISSION

All applicants together with letters of recommendations, Portfolio and payment should reach SPA not later than 30th April, 2009. Online applications will close after 24th April, 2009.

RESULT

Admission Process and important dates
Admission to the programme shall be through an admission process of 100 points. A
weight of 70% shall be for the performance in IITTM Admission Test. Another 15%
points each are for Personal Interview (PI) and Group Discussion (GD) respectively.
Merit for admission to the programme shall be determined by the institute.
1. Apply to IITTM latest by May 01, 2009 with admission fees of Rs. 700/- (500/- in
case of SC/ST) through a demand draft payable to Director-IITTM, payable at
Gwalior.
2. A prospective student should appear for IITTM Admission Test on May 24, 2009.
3. Short-listed students will have to appear for GD and PI during June 19-21, 2009, at
any one of the IITTM centres.
4. Declaration of result by June 24, 2009.
5. Counselling and initial fee deposit during July 11-12, 2009
6. Admission and full fee deposit by July 27, 2009
7. Commencement of teaching July 27, 2009.
Admission Test
Admission test shall be organised at different notified centres on May 24, 2009. The test
shall be of two and a half hours duration. Test shall comprise of multiple choice type
questions in four sections- Language proficiency, general awareness, numerical ability
and reasoning.

Applications are invited for admission to the Master of Technology (MTech), Master of Design (MDes) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes starting in July 2009.


Categories of MTech/MDes Students



The Institute admits MTech students under the following categories:



I) REGULAR (FULL -TIME)

These are students who work full-time for their MTech/MDes degrees and receive assistantships from the Institute or fellowship from any other recognised funding agency.



II) SPONSORED (FULL-TIME)

A candidate in this category is sponsored by a recognised R&D organisation, academic institution, governmental organisation or industry for doing MTech/MDes in the Institute on a full-time basis. The applicant must be a regular employee of his/her organisation with at least two years of experience at the time of admission and be engaged in professional work in the discipline in which admission is sought. He/She will not receive any financial support from the Institute. Sponsorship letter (Form I) must be attached with the application.



III) PART-TIME

This category refers to candidates who are professionally employed personnel (including the staff of IIT Guwahati), who can attend classes at the Institute while employed. These candidates should be able to attend regular classes as per the schedule of the Institute. The applicant must be a regular employee of a recognized organisation with at least two years of experience at the time of admission and be engaged in professional work in the discipline in which admission is sought. No financial assistance will be provided by the Institute to such students. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/ Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form II) must be enclosed at the time of application.



IV) PROJECT STAFF

This category refers to candidates who are presently working on sponsored projects in the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. The remaining duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least one year. This category of students may be registered on a full-time or part-time basis. No Objection Certificate (Form III) must be attached with the application.



Note: The word `Form’ used under this section refers to the forms as specified in the Application Form for Admission to

MTech/MDes Programmes.

Categories of PhD Students



The Institute admits PhD students under the following categories:



I) REGULAR

A student in this category works full-time for his/her PhD degree. He/she receives assistantship from the Institute or fellowship from CSIR/UGC or any other recognized funding agency.



II) SPONSORED (FULL-TIME)

A student in this category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, academic institution, government organization or industry for doing research in the Institute on a full-time basis. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. Sponsorship letter (Form I) must be attached with the application.



Iii) SELF-FINANCED

A student in this category works full-time or part-time towards the PhD Programme. He/She must have at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student.





iv) PROJECT STAFF

This category refers to a student who is working on a sponsored project in the Institute and is admitted to the PhD Programme to work on a full-time or part-time basis. The remaining duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least one year. If the project gets completed before the student completes his/her PhD Programme, his/her category will be converted to that of SELF-FINANCED unless he/she is granted an assistantship/fellowship from the Institute or any other agency. No Objection Certificate (Form II) must be attached with the application.



v) PART-TIME

A student in this category is a professionally employed person (including the staff of IIT Guwahati), who pursues the PhD Programme while continuing the duties of his/her service. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form III) must be enclosed at the time of application.



vi) EXTERNAL

This category refers to a student employed in an R&D organization/academic institution/industry having adequate research facilities. The research work leading to the PhD degree may be carried out largely in the parent organization of the candidate under a Local Supervisor from the organization but with the overall guidance provided by a faculty member (Institute Supervisor) of the Department/Centre in which he/she is registered. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A certificate from the Head of the sponsoring Institution/Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form IV) must be enclosed at the time of application.



Note: The word `Form’ used under this section refers to the forms as specified in the Application Form for Admission to PhD Programme.

Application forms and Information Brochures can also be obtained from the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Guwahati - 781 039, Assam, personally or by ordinary Post. To receive application forms by post, send a request along with a self-addressed unstamped envelope (24cm x 15cm size). Request for form must be sent in an envelope super-scribed with ‘Request for PhD/MTech/MDes Application form’. For example, a candidate interested in applying for MTech programme, should super-scribe on his/her envelope as ‘Request for MTech Application form’.



Filled in application forms complete with copies of mark sheets/certificates and other testimonials and a DD for Rs.150/- (Rs.75/- for SC/ST candidates) drawn in any nationalized bank and payable at Guwahati in favour of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati should be sent to the Head of the concerned Department/Centre, IIT Guwahati, Guwahati – 781039, to reach on or before 20 APRIL 2009. The words “Application for MTech/MDes/PhD admission” should be written on the top of the envelope for sending the completed form. For example, a candidate interested in applying for PhD programme in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, should (a) send the filled-in application form to The Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Guwahati – 781 039, Assam, and (b) on the top of the envelope also write the words “Application for PhD admission” Similarly, a candidate interested in applying for MTech programme in the Dept. of Civil Engineering, should (a) send the filled-in application form to The Head, Dept. of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Guwahati – 781 039, Assam, and (b) on the top of the envelope also write the words “Application for MTech admission”. PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ARE SOME EXAMPLES, AND THE CANDIDATES WILL HAVE TO ENSURE THAT THEIR APPLICATIONS ARE ADDRESSED CORRECTLY AND SENT TO THE APPROPRIATE DEPARTMENT/CENTRE, SINCE NO CLAIM LATER ON WILL BE ENTERTAINED FOR ANY WRONGLY ADDRESSED APPLICATION FORM. Applications are invited for admissions to the MPS/M.Phil programme of the Institute
with Government of India fellowship for the academic session 2009-2010 to commence from
July 2009:
MASTER OF POPULATION STUDIES (M.P.S.)/
MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY IN POPULATION STUDIES (M.PHIL.)

No. of Fellowships: 32 Seats with Government of India fellowship.

Eligibility: Master's degree in any of the following disciplines:
Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Geography, and
Anthropology, with a minimum of 55% marks. Candidates awaiting results of qualifying
examination by June 2009 can also apply for consideration. The upper age limit is 30 years as on
30.6.2009 (Marks & Age are relaxable for candidates belong to reserved categories as per GOI
rules).

Fellowship: Each selected Indian student will be awarded a Government of India fellowship @
Rs. 2,500/- per month.

Selection Criteria: The selection will be made on the basis of a written test, personal interview and past academic records. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the test and interview. Shortlisted candidates appearing for admission test are entitled to claim sleeper class round trip fare by the shortest route.

Written Test and Viva Voce Examination: July 2-3, 2009.

Commencement of Course: July 13, 2009.

Reservation: Reservation for OBC/SC/ST/PH candidates will be considered as per the
Government of India norms.

Sponsorship: Officials can also be sponsored by Government departments, research institutions, universities, medical colleges and non-governmental organisations to be considered for admission.
Eligible foreign students can also apply for admission provided they secure financial support

Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Population Studies: Eligible students of MPS/M.Phil
course are given the option of pursuing M.Phil in Population Studies by continuing for an
additional six months, on merit. Those completing this course will get M.Phil degree instead
of MPS degree. In the M.Phil programme, students take an Advanced Research Methodology
course, undertake guided reading of research papers and write a dissertation based on
primary/secondary data. The value of each M.Phil fellowship for Indian students is Rs. 3,000/-
p.m. with a lump sum contingency grant of Rs. 5,000/-.

Availability of Application Form: Prescribed application form and information can be obtained from the Assistant Registrar (Academic), International Institute for Population Sciences, Deonar, Mumbai-400 088 in person or by sending a self addressed Rs.25/- stamped envelope (25cm x 12cm) on or before May 29, 2009. The form may also be downloaded from the website http://www.iipsindia.org.

The completed application form along with necessary enclosures (including e-mail ID &
telephone number) and a non-refundable processing fee of Rs. 400/- (exempted for SC and ST
candidates) by Demand Draft, drawn from any nationalised Bank in favour of the Director, IIPS,
Mumbai should reach the Assistant Registrar (Academic) on or before May 29, 2009. The
processing fee may also be paid by cash at the cash counter and the cash receipt should be
attached along with the completed application set.

ICAR’s 14th ALL INDIA ENTRANCE EXAMINATION FOR ADMISSION TO MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES (AIEEA-PG-2009) IN AGRICULTURE, VETERINARY AND ALLIED SCIENCES FOR THE ACADEMIC SESSION 2009-10 AND AWARD OF ICAR-JRF(PGS)

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) invites applications, in prescribed form, from Indian Nationals, for its 14th All India Entrance Examination for Admission (AIEEA-PG-2009) to 100% seats at ICAR-DUs (IARI, IVRI, CIFE, NDRI) and 25% seats at all the State Agricultural Universities, AAIDU, Allahabad, CAU, Imphal, Central Universities with agricultural faculty namely, BHU, AMU, Visva Bharati and Nagaland University, for Master’s degree programmes in the field of Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Agri. Engineering, Home Science, Social Sciences, Dairy, Fisheries, Veterinary, and Allied Sciences for the Academic Session 2009-10 and award of ICAR’s Junior Research Fellowships (ICAR-JRF(PGS)). Eligibility Criteria:
Age: Not less than 19 years as on 31st August 2009.

Educational Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (or appearing in final year examination), in the field of Agriculture, Veterinary, Agricultural Engineering, Fisheries, Horticulture, Home Science, Sericulture, Dairy Technology, Dairy Engineering, Forestry, Agri. Marketing Banking and Cooperation, Food Science & Technology, Biotechnology, Process & Food Engineering, Computer Science, Basic and allied sciences under 10+2+5 or 10+2+4 (most seats) or 10+2+3 (only few seats) with 60% marks or
OGPA 6.60/ 10.00 or 3.25/5.00 or 2.60/4.00 for General, OBC and UPS categories and 55% marks or OGPA 5.50/ 10.00 or 2.75/5.00 or 2.20/4.00 for SC, ST and Physically Handicapped(PH) categories.

For admission in the subject of Veterinary Sciences, candidates must have completed B.V.Sc.&A.H. with Internship before the date of registration in the University or August 31, 2009 whichever is earlier.

It may be noted that the candidate has to fulfill the eligibility criteria of the admitting University for the admission at the time of counseling. (Candidates appearing in the final year examination of Bachelor degree will have to submit certificates/provisional mark sheets signed by the Registrar of the University of their having completing the degree in all respects on the date of counseling or else they will be summarily disqualified).

Reservation: As per Govt. of India directives. 15% seats in all subjects will be reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes (ST), 3% for Physically Handicapped (PH), and 2% for candidates from Under-Privileged States (UPS). Reservation for OBC in four Central Universities (NDRI, CAU, BHU and Viswa Bharati) will be as per Government of India directives/ University rules.

ICAR-JRF(PGS): Based on the merit in the AIEEA-PG-2009 examination, about 475 ICAR-Junior Research Fellowships for postgraduate studies (ICAR-JRF(PGS)) in 20 major subject groups can be availed for two years in Agricultural Universities (AUs) comprising State Agricultural Universities, AAI-DU, ICAR-DUs, CAU and CUs with agriculture faculty, provided their Bachelor degree is not from the same AU (except NDRI Karnal). The current rates of fellowship are Rs. 12000/- pm for Veterinary Sciences and Rs. 8640/- pm for other disciplines besides contingent grant of Rs. 6000/- per annum in each case. Candidates, currently studying for their Master’s degree in 1st year, can also appear in AIEEA-PG-2009 examination for securing ICAR-JRF(PGS). However, if a ICAR-JRF(PGS) holder seeks fresh admission, entire amount of fellowship received by him shall have to be refunded with interest.

Duration of Course: Two Academic years for 10+2+4 students. Students from Basic sciences with 10+2+3 programme can also apply for some subjects/locations but course duration in such cases is three years.

• Can be obtained by Post from 20th February 2009 to 27th March, 2009 by sending a written
request (on plain paper) for Information Bulletin with Application form along with an Account
Payee Bank draft of Rs. 550/- (Rs. 500/- + Rs. 50/- for postage and handling) for General, OBC
and UPS categories and Rs. 300/- (Rs. 250/- + Rs. 50/- for postage and handling) for SC, ST and PH categories and also an unstamped self addressed envelope (size 30cm x 25cm) and the
request should be addressed to “The Controller of Examinations(Education Division), Room No.
216, ICAR, Krishi Anusandhan Bhavan-II, Pusa, New Delhi-110012. The requests received for
the Information Bulletins and Application Forms by post after 27th March 2009 will not be
entertained.
• Can be obtained in person from 20th February 2009 to 31st March 2009 by submitting A/c
payee Bank Draft (without postage/sale charges) from the sale counters of (i). National

The A/c payee bank draft should be made in favour of “Deputy Director General (Education),
ICAR” payable at “New Delhi” and candidate should write the details of his/ her name and address on the back of the Bank Draft. It may be checked that the Bank Draft contains the name of the issuing bank and branch, signature of the issuing authority, amount in words, date of draft etc. clearly. In no case, ICAR will be held responsible for non-receipt of the application and bank draft or delay in postage.

It may be noted that The Syndicate Bank and State Agricultural Universities will not send the
Information Bulletin by Post.

The last date for the receipt of Application Forms in the office of “The Controller of
Examinations(Education Division), Room No.216, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Krishi
Anusandhan Bhavan-II, Pusa, New Delhi–110012 is 7th April 2009. However for the candidates
belonging to the remote areas viz., Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram,
Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Ladakh Division of J&K State, Lahaul & Spiti District and Pangi Subdivision of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep, the last date is 14th April 2009. Application Forms received after the last date will be summarily rejected and Education Division, ICAR shall not responsible for non-receipt of applications within the time schedule due to postal delay or any other reasons for delay. All disputes relating to the conduct of this examination or any matter connected with this advertisement shall be in the jurisdiction of DELHI COURT only.
