Applications are invited for admission to the Master of Technology (MTech), Master of Design (MDes) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes starting in July 2009.
Categories of MTech/MDes Students
The Institute admits MTech students under the following categories:
I) REGULAR (FULL -TIME)
These are students who work full-time for their MTech/MDes degrees and receive assistantships from the Institute or fellowship from any other recognised funding agency.
II) SPONSORED (FULL-TIME)
A candidate in this category is sponsored by a recognised R&D organisation, academic institution, governmental organisation or industry for doing MTech/MDes in the Institute on a full-time basis. The applicant must be a regular employee of his/her organisation with at least two years of experience at the time of admission and be engaged in professional work in the discipline in which admission is sought. He/She will not receive any financial support from the Institute. Sponsorship letter (Form I) must be attached with the application.
III) PART-TIME
This category refers to candidates who are professionally employed personnel (including the staff of IIT Guwahati), who can attend classes at the Institute while employed. These candidates should be able to attend regular classes as per the schedule of the Institute. The applicant must be a regular employee of a recognized organisation with at least two years of experience at the time of admission and be engaged in professional work in the discipline in which admission is sought. No financial assistance will be provided by the Institute to such students. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/ Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form II) must be enclosed at the time of application.
IV) PROJECT STAFF
This category refers to candidates who are presently working on sponsored projects in the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. The remaining duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least one year. This category of students may be registered on a full-time or part-time basis. No Objection Certificate (Form III) must be attached with the application.
Note: The word `Form’ used under this section refers to the forms as specified in the Application Form for Admission to
MTech/MDes Programmes.

Categories of PhD Students
The Institute admits PhD students under the following categories:
I) REGULAR
A student in this category works full-time for his/her PhD degree. He/she receives assistantship from the Institute or fellowship from CSIR/UGC or any other recognized funding agency.
II) SPONSORED (FULL-TIME)
A student in this category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, academic institution, government organization or industry for doing research in the Institute on a full-time basis. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. Sponsorship letter (Form I) must be attached with the application.
Iii) SELF-FINANCED
A student in this category works full-time or part-time towards the PhD Programme. He/She must have at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student.
iv) PROJECT STAFF
This category refers to a student who is working on a sponsored project in the Institute and is admitted to the PhD Programme to work on a full-time or part-time basis. The remaining duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least one year. If the project gets completed before the student completes his/her PhD Programme, his/her category will be converted to that of SELF-FINANCED unless he/she is granted an assistantship/fellowship from the Institute or any other agency. No Objection Certificate (Form II) must be attached with the application.
v) PART-TIME
A student in this category is a professionally employed person (including the staff of IIT Guwahati), who pursues the PhD Programme while continuing the duties of his/her service. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form III) must be enclosed at the time of application.
vi) EXTERNAL
This category refers to a student employed in an R&D organization/academic institution/industry having adequate research facilities. The research work leading to the PhD degree may be carried out largely in the parent organization of the candidate under a Local Supervisor from the organization but with the overall guidance provided by a faculty member (Institute Supervisor) of the Department/Centre in which he/she is registered. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A certificate from the Head of the sponsoring Institution/Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form IV) must be enclosed at the time of application.

Application forms and Information Brochures can also be obtained from the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Guwahati - 781 039, Assam, personally or by ordinary Post. To receive application forms by post, send a request along with a self-addressed unstamped envelope (24cm x 15cm size). Request for form must be sent in an envelope super-scribed with ‘Request for PhD/MTech/MDes Application form’. For example, a candidate interested in applying for MTech programme, should super-scribe on his/her envelope as ‘Request for MTech Application form’.
Filled in application forms complete with copies of mark sheets/certificates and other testimonials and a DD for Rs.150/- (Rs.75/- for SC/ST candidates) drawn in any nationalized bank and payable at Guwahati in favour of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati should be sent to the Head of the concerned Department/Centre, IIT Guwahati, Guwahati – 781039, to reach on or before 20 APRIL 2009. The words “Application for MTech/MDes/PhD admission” should be written on the top of the envelope for sending the completed form. For example, a candidate interested in applying for PhD programme in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, should (a) send the filled-in application form to The Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Guwahati – 781 039, Assam, and (b) on the top of the envelope also write the words “Application for PhD admission” Similarly, a candidate interested in applying for MTech programme in the Dept. of Civil Engineering, should (a) send the filled-in application form to The Head, Dept. of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Guwahati – 781 039, Assam, and (b) on the top of the envelope also write the words “Application for MTech admission”. Selection

Eligibility Criteria for Admission in to PhD Programme
Ph.D. in Engineering:
For admission to the PhD Programme in Engineering Departments, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

Master’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Medical Sciences/ Veterinary Sciences/ Pharmacy in a relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
*
Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.
*
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Medical Sciences (from other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
Ph.D. in Science:
For admission to the PhD Programme in Science departments, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:
*
Master’s degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
*
Master’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Design in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
*
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Design from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.
*
Bachelor’s degree in a related area in Engineering/ Technology/ Design (from other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
Ph.D. in Humanities and Social Sciences:
For admission to the PhD Programme in the department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

Master’s degree in Arts/ Commerce/ Science in a relevant area with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent.
*
Master’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Design in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.
*
Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.
*
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Design (from other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates:
Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ ST applicants.
Reservations:
The reservation of seats in admissions for SC, ST, OBC categories and for Persons with Disability (PD) will be as per Government of India rules. OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose certificate and self-declaration statement as per formats as indicated at Annexures-I and II.
Financial Support:
The Institute assistantships will be available to eligible (Indian) students as per prevailing (MHRD, GOI) norms, as applicable from time to time. The present rates of assistantships are as below:

GATE score requirement is exempted for students with Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with minimum CPI of 8.0.

Assistantships from external funding organizations will be available as per terms and conditions of the concerned funding organizations.

Students receiving assistantships from the Institute or fellowships from any other funding agencies are required to perform academic duties as per prevailing norms.

The continuation of the assistantship/fellowship is subject to satisfactory performance of the assigned duties and satisfactory progress of the student in the PhD Programme.
Minimum Experience required for Sponsored (Full-Time), Self-Financed, Part-Time and External Categories of Candidates:

IIT Bombay - Research Fellowship and Summer Internship 2009 | www.iitb.ac.in
IIT Bombay Research Fellowship and Summer Internship Schemes aim to attract professionals and students of proven caliber towards research activities at IIT Bombay. The awardees are expected to work on research projects and could be considered for admission into post-graduate degree / Ph.D Programs subject to fulfilling normal IIT Bombay admission requirements.
IIT Bombay Research Fellowship Scheme
* The awardees will be selected based on their academic record and an interview, followed by a written test (if necessary).
* They will be expected to work on research projects for a minimum period of one year in different Departments/ Schools/ Centres/ Inter-disciplinary Programs based on their academic background and research interests.
* The Research Fellowship Scheme is open to B.Tech. / B.E. / M.Tech. / MBA / M.A. / M.Com. / M.Sc. / MBBS or equivalent degree, with or without experience. Students with research inclinations in Humanities, Bio-sectors, Management and with background other than the above can also apply.
* The awardees with B. Tech./B.E. or M.Sc. qualification will be awarded a stipend of Rs. 8,000 - 10,000/- p.m.. Degree holders with experience may be considered for a higher amount.
* Other benefits include funding for participation in national & international conferences, Library facilities, hostel accommodation and working with proven international collaborators (where applicable).
IIT Bombay Summer Internship Scheme
• The awardees (who have not completed their degrees) will have an opportunity to work on research projects under the mentorship of faculty members/scientists during their summer vacation. On the completion of their degrees, they could be considered for research Fellowship subject to performance during Summer Internship. The Summer Internship scheme is open to pre-final year B.Tech./ B.E./ M.A./ M.Com/ M.Sc./ M.E./ M.Tech./ MBA/ MBBS or equivalent degree students.
• The summer internship scheme is only for pre-final year students. Final year students appearing for their final exam shall apply for Research Fellowship.
• Rs. 3000/-p.m. for summer internship (For a maximum of two months).
• Other benefits include Library facilities and hostel accommodation.
Selection Procedure
• The selection procedure consists of preliminary screening of online applications, followed by personal interviews to be held in a decentralized manner at the department level.
• Selection criteria will include consistently brilliant academic performance (relative rank in the class/University), work carried out by the student besides his regular academic work, participation/ recognition in competitions such as Techfest, Olympiads, National Talent Search Exams, and performance in the interview.
• Train fare (IInd/Sleeper Class) will be given to outstation candidates , shortlisted for interview

Admission Procedure
Admission will be a two-step process:
* All India written test for entrance to be conducted at Bangalore, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. The institute reserves the right to cancel/reallocate any of the centres in case of insufficient number of qualifying candidates at a particular centre.
* From the list of qualified candidates from the entrance test, the final selection of candidates will be made on the basis of GD/PI at Kharagpur and other centers as may be decided by the Institute from time to time.
# Fees: Rs. 50,000/semester is the tuition fee.

GATE Exams 2009 ScoreCard Results Key | Results will be Declared on 15th March 2009
GATE Scorecard
The GATE 2009 scorecard will consist of actual marks obtained by the candidate, the GATE Score, Percentile Score and All India Rank (AIR). Scorecard will be sent only to the qualified candidates. No information will be sent to candidates who are not qualified.
GATE scorecard is valid for ONE YEAR ONLY. Additional scorecards (up to a maximum of two) will be issued only once on request and on payment of Rs 300 per scorecard. Such requests should reach the Organizing Chairman, GATE 2009, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Roorkee � 247 667 before August 31, 2009 together with a bank draft for the amount mentioned as above in favour of Chairman GATE, IIT Roorkee, payable at Roorkee. These scorecards will be labeled as Additional Scorecard -1 and Additional Scorecard - 2.
The GATE score, awarded in the range of 0 to 1000 reflects the candidate�s academic ability and will be based on his/her performance in GATE 2009 and the performances of all candidates who appeared in GATE in the last four years 2006-2009. Candidates with the same GATE score from different GATE papers and/or years can be considered to have the same performance level.

Master in Medical Science & Technology : 2009 – (3 Years) by Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur
Eligibility for MMST
The eligibility criterion for admission to MMST students is MBBS Degree (recognised by Medical Council of India) with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate and having studied mathematics at +2 level (even as additional subject) or from any recognized Open University. Seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates and persons with disability as per Govt. of India rules.
Mode of Selection
MMST students - The selection of is strictly based on the performance of the candidates in an objective type of written test of 2 hours duration. The candidate needs to answer 120 questions of one mark each (no negative marking) out of which 75 questions are from MBBS syllabi. The remaining questions are equally distributed to cover the syllabi of +2 level Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, Candidates qualifying in the admission test will be called for counseling at IIT Kharagpur before final selection
Application Procedure
MMST 2009 application is to be submitted only by an ONLINE process (internet based) by accessing the website http://gate/iitkgp.ac.in/mmst from 2 February 2009 till 6 March 2009. The candidate should first pay the Application Fee by obtaining a Demand Draft (Rs. 1000/- for General Category and Rs. 500/- for SC/ST/PD Category) drawn in favour of IIT Kharagpur on any nationalised bank payable at Kharagpur, West Bengal. The draft details are require while filling up the ONLINE application form after successful submission of data. The printed form, with candidate's signature and photograph pasted at appropriate place, and the Demand Draft must be sent by speed post so as to reach by 16 March 2009 to The Chairman, GATE, IIT Kharagpur, Kharagpur - 721302.
Following additional documents should be mailed along with the printed Application Form:
1.Attested copy of SC/ST/PD certificate (if applicable)

GATE qualified candidates with Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy or Master's degree in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications are eligible for Master/Doctoral programmes in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy as well as for Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Science. To avail the scholarship, the candidate must secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution. GATE qualification, however, is not required for candidates with Master's degree in Engineering /Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy, who may be seeking scholarship/ assistantship for relevant doctoral programmes.
Some institutions specify GATE as the mandatory qualification even for admission of self-financing students to postgraduate programmes. GATE qualified candidates are also eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR Laboratories and CSIR sponsored projects. Some government organizations prescribe GATE qualification as a requirement for applying to the post of a Scientist / Engineer.

Minimum Marks:
JAM-2009 qualified candidates shall have to get at least 55% aggregate marks (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for General/OBC Category candidates and at least 50% aggregate marks (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for SC/ST and PD Category candidates in the qualifying Degree, to become eligible for admissions in IITs. For candidates with letter grades/CGPA (instead of percentage of marks), the equivalent percentage of marks will be decided by the admitting institute(s).
Candidates who have either appeared or are due to appear in the final examination of their qualifying degree in 2009 are also eligible to appear in the Test. On qualifying JAM-2009, such candidates can apply for provisional admission subject to the condition that
(i) all parts of their final examination shall be over by the date of registration of the Admitting Institute
(ii) shall produce the proof of having passed the qualifying degree with required eligibility, as specified by the Admitting Institute, in the form of the final result on or before September 30, 2009.

JAM Test Paper Pattern:
Test Papers for Biotechnology and Computer Applications will be fully Objective Type. All other Test Papers will be Objective-cum-Subjective Type. There will be a ‘Question-cum-Answer Booklet' for each of these six Test Papers. In each of these six Test Papers, out of the total marks assigned to the Test Paper, objective and subjective questions will carry weightages of 30% and 70%, respectively.
The Objective type questions in all the Test Papers will have four choices as possible answers, of which, only one will be correct. There will be negative marking for wrong answers to the Objective type questions in all the Test Papers. For wrong answer to an objective type question, candidates will get negative 1/3 (negative one third) of the maximum marks assigned to that question. The medium for all the Test Papers will be English only.

To apply for admission to a desired programme, a candidate is required to qualify in the corresponding Test Paper at JAM 2009 and also satisfy the minimum educational qualifications and eligibility criteria of the academic programme.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADMISSION
M.Sc. Applied Geology (IITB, IITR)/M.Tech. Geological Technology (IITR)/M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Geological Sciences (IITKgp): Bachelor’s degree with Geology as a subject for three years/six semesters and any two subjects among Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biological Science. The candidate must have Mathematics at (10+2) level.
M.Sc. Applied Geophysics (IITB): Bachelor’s degree with both Physics and Mathematics as subjects for two years and at least one of them as a subject for three years.
M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Geophysics (IITKgp): Bachelor’s degree with two subjects among Physics, Mathematics and Geology for at least two years/four semesters each and the remaining one for at least one year / two semesters.
M.Tech. Geophysical Technology (IITR): Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics and Physics as subjects and any one among Chemistry, Geology, Statistics, Electronics and Computer Science.
M.Sc. Applied Mathematics (IITR)/M.Sc. Industrial Mathematics and Informatics (IITR)/M.Sc. Mathematics (IITB, IITD, IITK, IITM)/M.Sc. Mathematics and Computing (IITG)/M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Mathematics (IITKgp): Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics as a subject for at least two years/four semesters.
M.Sc. Applied Statistics and Informatics (IITB)/M.Sc. Statistics (IITK): Bachelor’s degree with either Mathematics or Statistics as a subject for at least two years/four semesters.
M.Sc. Biotechnology (IITB, IITR): Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science/ Agriculture / Pharmacy / Veterinary / Engineering / Medicine (MBBS).
M.Sc. Chemistry (IITB, IITD, IITG, IITK, IITM, IITR)/M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree in Chemistry (IITKgp): Bachelor’s degree with Chemistry as a subject for three years/six semesters and Mathematics at (10+2) level.
M.Sc. Physics (IITB, IITD, IITG, IITK, IITM, IITR) / M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree program in Physics (IITB, IITK, IITKgp): Bachelor’s degree with Physics as a subject for at least two years/four semesters and Mathematics for at least one year/two semesters.
M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree program in Energy (IITB): Bachelor’s degree with any one of Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics for two years/four semesters, and any one of the remaining two subjects for at least one year/two semesters.
Master of Computer Applications [MCA] (IITR): Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics as a subject for at least one year for annual system candidates/at least two papers of Mathematics for semester system candidates.
Minimum Marks: JAM-2009 qualified candidates shall have to get at least 55% aggregate marks (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for General/OBC Category candidates and at least 50% aggregate marks (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for SC/ST and PD Category candidates in the qualifying Degree, to become eligible for admissions in IITs. For candidates with letter grades/CGPA (instead of percentage of marks), the equivalent percentage of marks will be decided by the admitting institute(s).
Candidates who have either appeared or are due to appear in the final examination of their qualifying degree in 2009 are also eligible to appear in the Test. On qualifying JAM-2009, such candidates can apply for provisional admission subject to the condition that (i) all parts of their final examination shall be over by the date of registration of the Admitting Institute (ii) shall produce the proof of having passed the qualifying degree with required eligibility, as specified by the Admitting Institute, in the form of the final result on or before September 30, 2009.
TEST SCHEDULE: JAM-2009 will be held on May 3, 2009 (Sunday) in two sessions.Each Test paper will be of three hours duration. Session 1, to be held from 9 a.m to 12 noon will be held for Test Paper Codes CY/CA/GG/MS/PH while Session 2I to be held from 2 p.m to 5 p.m will be for the subject Codes BT/GP/MA. A candidate can appear in either one or two Test Papers, subject to the restrictions imposed by the Test Schedule and on payment of requisite additional fee for the second Test Paper, if applicable. Candidates desiring to appear in two test papers must ensure, from the Test Schedule, that there is no clash of time schedule for the chosen test papers.

Candidates have to indicate two choices of cities in terms of their codes for the centers where they wish to appear in JAM-2009. A request for a change of a center within the same city/town will not be permitted. However, under exceptional circumstances, a change of center (to another city/town) may be permitted if request with valid reason for the same is received in the office of the Organizing Chairman, JAM-2009, IIT Kharagpur, on or before February 10, 2009 along with a Demand Draft of Rs. 250/- (Rs. 125/- for SC/ST and PD candidates) drawn in favour of “Organizing JAM-2009″ payable at Canara Bank, Fatak Bazar, Kharida, Kharagpur (Branch Code: 0190).
PATTERN OF TEST PAPERS: Test Papers for Biotechnology and Computer Applications will be fully Objective Type. All other Test Papers will be Objective-cum-Subjective Type. There will be a ‘Question-cum-Answer Booklet’ for each of these six Test Papers. In each of these six Test Papers, out of the total marks assigned to the Test Paper, objective and subjective questions will carry weightages of 30% and 70%, respectively.
The Objective type questions in all the Test Papers will have four choices as possible answers, of which, only one will be correct. There will be negative marking for wrong answers to the Objective type questions in all the Test Papers. For wrong answer to an objective type question, candidates will get negative 1/3 (negative one third) of the maximum marks assigned to that question. The medium for all the Test Papers will be English only.

The “OMR Application Form” and the “Information Brochure” can also be obtained by Post from the JAM Office of IIT Kharagpur by making a written request along with the Demand Draft of Rs. 1050/- for General category Male candidates, Rs. 950/- for General category Female candidates and Rs. 550/- for SC/ST and PD candidates, drawn in favour of “Organizing JAM-2009″, IIT Kharagpur, payable at Canara Bank, Kharagpur (Branch Code: 0190), and a self-addressed slip (11.0 cm x 6.0 cm). Such requests must reach the JAM office, IIT Kharagpur, latest by January 7, 2009. The application material shall be dispatched by Registered Post.
The OMR Application Form enclosed in the envelope provided with the Information Brochure is to be completed by the candidate in all respects. The form should be folded only where it was originally folded. The code(s) of the Test Paper(s) applied, and the first choice of city/town of test are to be written on the left-top portion of the envelope.
The candidates desiring to appear for a second Test Paper must clearly mention their option in the OMR Application Form. Such candidates are required to pay an additional fee of Rs. 300/- (Rs. 150/- for SC/ST and PD candidates) through a DD in favour of “Organizing Chairman, JAM-2009″, payable at Canara Bank, Kharagpur (Branch Code: 0190). This Demand Draft is to be sent along with the OMR Application Form.
Online Procedure: The facility for Online Registration will be available through the website http://jam.iitkgp.ac.in from November 24, 2008. The last date for submission of Online Application Forms on website is January 19, 2009. A candidate can fill-in electronically his/her personal data (Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Nationality, Category, PD Status), Number of Test Papers Applied, Test Paper(s), Cities/Towns for the Test (First and Second choices), Qualifying Examination Passed, Year of Qualifying Examination, Name of Qualifying Degree, Percentage of Aggregate Marks/CGPA (calculated out of 10), Name of Parent/Guardian, Relationship, Telephone Numbers (landline and mobile) and the Bank Draft details (Name and Code of the issuing Branch, Amount of Demand Draft, Date of Issue and Draft No.). After electronically filling his/her personal data in the Online Application Form on the website, the candidate must download this form and take a print out of the same.
The information pertaining to the Photograph, Declaration and Signature will have to be provided by the candidate on the printed Online Registration Form. The photograph should be glued at the appropriate place provided in the form. The photograph must not be stapled and not be signed/attested.
Candidates, who register online, will get a concession of Rs. 100/- in application fee. If the candidate is appearing in only one test paper, the application fee is Rs. 900/- for General/OBC category Male candidates, Rs. 800/- for General/OBC category Female candidates and Rs. 400/- for SC/ST and PD candidates. The candidates desiring to appear in two Test Papers must clearly mention their options in the Online Registration Form.For such candidates, the application fee is Rs. 1200/- for General/OBC category Male candidates, Rs. 1100/- for General/OBC category Female candidates and Rs. 550/- for SC/ST and PD candidates. The appropriate application fee must be in the form of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of “Organizing JAM-2009″, payable at Canara Bank, Kharagpur (Branch Code: 0190). The candidate may keep an identical photograph in reserve for future need. The candidate is also advised to keep a photocopy of the completed Online Registration Form for his/her record.
Acknowledgement Card: A printed acknowledgement card is enclosed with the OMR Application Form. The candidate has to write his/her name and mailing address in the space provided and enclose this card with the OMR Application Form after affixing postage stamp of Rs. 6/-. The Organizing Institute will post the card immediately on receipt of the OMR Application Form. The acknowledgement card must not be stapled with the OMR Application Form.
In the case of Online Registration, on receipt of duly completed Online Registration Form along with requisite Demand Draft for application fee (as applicable) and a self-addressed envelope with stamp(s) of Rs. 6/-, an acknowledgement will be sent by the JAM Office, IIT Kharagpur, at the address given by the candidate.

Irrespective of the choice of the cities/towns of test centers, candidate must send the duly filled in OMR Application Form or completed Online Registration Form, as the case may be, along with all necessary enclosures indicated above, to Organizing Chairman, JAM-2009, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Kharagpur-721302. The completed OMR Application Form/Online Registration Form can also be submitted in person at the JAM office, IIT Kharagpur, during office hours on working days.
Last date for receipt of the duly completed OMR Application Form/Online Registration Form at the JAM Office, IIT Kharagpur, is January 22, 2009.
Admissions to various academic programmes at different institutes will be made on the basis of merit in JAM-2009. On the basis of performance in the Test, for each Test Paper, separate merit lists will be prepared for General, OBC (Non-creamy), SC, ST and Person with Disability (PD) category candidates. Request for the change of category, with proper documentation, should reach the Organizing Institute by February 10, 2009. Requests received after this date will not be accepted under any circumstances.
An applicant can apply to one or more academic programs corresponding to the Test Paper(s) in which he/she has qualified, subject to fulfillment of the minimum educational qualifications and the eligibility requirements of the Admitting Institute(s).
After JAM-2009 results are announced, a qualified candidate will have to apply on the prescribed Admission Form to the Organizing Institute (IIT Kharagpur) only, irrespective of the IIT(s) where he/she desires to seek admission. The Admission Form(s) will be sent along with the Rank Card to the qualified candidates and can also be downloaded from the website of the Organizing Institute.
Irrespective of whether a candidate has qualified in one or two Test Papers, he/she needs to send only one duly completed Admission Form listing all the M.Sc./ M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual degree/ post-B.Sc. programs (along with the order of preferences) to which the admission is sought by him/her.
The duly completed Admission Form along with required enclosures must be sent by the applicant to the Organizing Chairman, JAM-2009, IIT Kharagpur, Kharagpur - 721 302, along with an Account Payee Demand Draft of Rs. 300/- (Rupees Three Hundred only), drawn in favour of “Organizing JAM-2009″, payable at Canara Bank, Kharagpur (Branch Code: 0190), as a non-refundable processing fee. Candidate will be considered for admission only to the program(s), given in his/her Admission Form.
The last date for receiving the completed Admission Form at the Organizing Institute (IIT Kharagpur) is June 9, 2009.
First Admission List for each M.Sc./M.Sc.-Ph.D.Dual degree/ post-B.Sc. program under JAM-2009 will be declared at 17:00 hours on June 20, 2009. Admission offers will be sent by the respective Admitting Institute(s) to the candidates concerned on June 22, 2009. Last date for conveying the acceptance of the offer by the candidates to the Organizing Chairman, JAM-2009, IIT Kharagpur, is July 6, 2009. Along with the acceptance of offer, these candidates will also have to send an advance fee of Rs. 5000/- to the Organizing Chairman through a demand draft in favour of the “Organizing JAM-2009″, payable at Canara Bank, Kharagpur (Branch Code: 0190). This amount will be transferred to the Admitting Institute and the same will be adjusted at the time of registration.
In case some seats remain vacant (after the First Admission List), the Organizing Institute will prepare a Second Admission List. This list will be declared by the Organizing Institute at 09:00 hours on July 8, 2009. The admission offers based on the second admission list, if any, will be sent by the Admitting Institute(s) to the candidates concerned on July 9, 2009. The candidates being offered admission through the second list must report directly to the admitting institute on the date of semester registration. With that the admission process based on JAM-2009 will come to an end.
If a candidate has been allotted a seat through first admission list and if he/she accepts the offer of admission, his/her lower preferences, if any, will be automatically cancelled but he/she shall remain on the waiting list for all of his/her higher preferences, if any, in the next round of admissions. Those eligible candidates, who are not allotted any seat in the First Admission List, shall remain on the waiting list in the next round of admissions. Candidates who do not want to be considered for higher preference program(s) in the next round of admissions, will have to inform about the same in the prescribed form at the time of acceptance of the admission offer. However, once a candidate fails to accept an admission offer, he/she will not be considered for any of his/her choices thereafter and hence, in the next round of admissions, he/she will not be in the waiting list of any program.
At the time of admission, all admitted candidates will have to submit a physical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed form. At the time of registration, the admitted candidates may have to undergo a physical fitness test by a Medical Board constituted by the Admitting Institute. In case a candidate is not found to be physically fit to pursue his/her chosen course of study, his/her admission may be cancelled.
Reserved Seats : Seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) (15%), Scheduled Tribe (ST) (7.5%), Other Backward Caste (OBC) – Non-creamy (18%) and Person with Disability (PD) (including leprosy-cured) (3% -Horizontal Reservation)
